Onsite staff assist individuals seeking employment, training and education services and also provide services to businesses seeking a skilled workforce. Businesses may use the mobile lab for recruiting, pre-employment screening, interviewing and training. Construction Ready Training Program

The Construction Ready Training Program is a four-week accelerated NCCER ACCREDITED, hands-on construction training, and certification program that is offered in four locations in the Metro Atlanta region. The Construction Ready program connects participants to some of Atlanta’s top construction companies, which quite often leads to employment. This is a FREE background friendly and drug-free class for all eligible residents in the City of Atlanta and the following counties: Cobb, Cherokee, Clayton, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, and Rockdale. Goodwill of North Georgia hosts Weekly Job Training Information Sessions at its Atlanta area Goodwill Career Centers each month. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Works Program (snapworks@ging.org) at Goodwill provides funds for able bodied adults who are eligible to receive food stamps. The Good Transitions: Young Adult (DOL-ETA) Program (goodtransitions@ging.org) at Goodwill provides funds for individuals 18-24 who have had involvement with the criminal justice system in high-poverty, high-crime areas. Youth Summit 2019 - Rethinking Education and Employment for Youth

Youth Summit 2019 will provide an opportunity for youth ages 16-24 to learn about different career paths by participating in hands-on workshops, and interacting with employers and key community partners who provide certification programs.

This one-day summit will have three components:

  • Opening session -The Summit will open with a session to connect youth and speakers from different industries (i.e. Information Technology, Construction, etc.) The conversation will focus on the importance of youth employment and how we need to rethink the future of education and employment. 

  • Workshops - Attendees will participate in workshops that focus on four topics suggested by metro Atlanta youth and young adults, giving participants an opportunity to share ideas and experience and learn about how to navigate their future education and employment pathways. The topics are Career Planning, Networking, Mentoring and Financial Literacy.

  • Closing session - Youth will share their learnings from the summit and discuss what else they need to be prepared for education and employment opportunities in metro Atlanta.

Southern Crescent Technical College, in partnership with Cross Flight Education, is offering a Drone Technology course from Monday, April 29th, with classes beginning at 5:30 PM, to Saturday, May 4th, with class beginning at 9:00 AM, at Southern Crescent Tech’s Griffin Campus – Building 100 (501 Varsity Road, Griffin, GA).  The 22-hour course will enable students to acquire the technical training needed to explore exciting business opportunities in the unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) industry. This instructor-led training class will cover Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules and regulations, airspace classifications, risk assessment tools, aeronautical decision making, weather awareness and more. The Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta is hosting Camp Gwinnett on Sunday, April 28th, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, at Tribble Mill Park (2125 Tribble Mill Parkway, SE, Lawrenceville, GA).  Camp Gwinnett is an annual event that is held to expose Girl Scouts to a variety of outdoor skills. Many have not attended camp, or even spent much time outdoors. For the afternoon, Girl Scout troops and lead booths in a variety of activities like how to set up tents, roll sleeping bags, light a campfire, cook meals over a fire with no electricity, identify plants, wilderness first aid, archery, caving and animal tracking. One of the main goals of this event is to get girls and their parents to feel more confident about camping and experiencing life in the outdoors. Girl Scouts interested in participating can click here for a registration link.
