Opportunities for Talent

4.6 million Americans between 16 and 24 are out of school and also not working. Often referred to as Opportunity Youth (OY), these young, motivated workers are a vital and untapped resource looking to fill millions of open roles. In fact, retention rates for opportunity youth are up to 300 percent higher than for their entry-level peers. Many young people, however, are unaware that opportunities are available, nor are they aware of the steps they need to take to secure these jobs. At the same time, employers often lack strategies to effectively recruit, train and retain young workers who face systemic barriers on their path to employment.

Why Join Opportunity ATL?

There are a variety of reasons more than 36,000 Atlanta area youth are disconnected from school and employment — transportation, criminal history, home insecurity, family obligations, etc. But we know that despite these barriers, youth thrive when given the opportunity to succeed. That’s why Opportunity ATL was launched and is pleased to announce its second youth hiring and resource fair on October 16.

Opportunity ATL Job and Resource Fair

While not as large as Atlanta's OY event in May 2018, the October fair will include some key elements of the inaugural fair – separate interviewing space, a computer lab for on-the-spot applications, and access to support service providers.

Even better than the original, we will provide a free shuttle from the Marta train station to the Career Center and back for jobseekers that rely on public transit. Additionally, we will utilize a jobseeker tracking app for this fair. Based on feedback from the last fair, tracking jobseekers was a challenge for employers. The app will enable you to track all candidates that visit your booth, tag their profiles for follow up, and track them through your process. It also enables us to measure the connections made at the job fair.

Interested employers are encouraged to register today, as space is limited. If you are not sure you’re ready for the fair, but still want to be engaged, tell us more and we will get you involved.
